Cool and bright
without clouds it’s the beginnings of a great Sunday morning; time for
breakfast and pack-up for a 225Km drive due west to the coast and to meet up with Dave & Joyce Murray later today. We each partook of the Parador buffet complete with eggs cooked to order, strong coffee, fruit and yogurt to get our motors running for the journey. After double checking and packing the Seat was loaded and on the road at 1015 earlier than we normally hit the road. Sunglasses are a necessity today as the weird wet weather system appears to have rumbled further inland from the Atlantic, the locals had said there were wet on and off over the past week until this AM. We headed towards Ourense on the N-525 and it later led us to the A-52 major highway to the coast. Paul noted that as we approached Biaona that the next town was called Gondomar, he mentioned he felt we might be in the land of Harry Potter with a town named such. Anyway it was an uneventful drive all the time with brilliant sunshine. The Paradors have a system that when you check out they had you a lunchtime voucher for 15% discount at any Parador along your route that day only for lunch. So, guess what, we checked into Biaona and had lunch here. We found four items that offered half sized portions and so we had a spread of tapas for lunch along with a ½ half bottle of Rose wine. What a treat and so fresh, too.

Dave and Joyce rolled
to a stop at 630PM from their UK flight flight from Stansted England. They have
a VW Polo (diesel) rental while ours is a Seat Leon (gas). We quickly filled
the others in on latest happenings/news and soon it was as if we had not been
apart these last 9 months. Friendships formed in 1970 continue on timelessly.
We had a drink and then wandered down into town for our
evening meal. Ultimately we found a place specializing in seafood no less as Biaona
is a coastal town, surprise!
The Parador is a
fortress on a hill. It is totally surrounded by crenellated walls on top of a
cliff. You can walk the whole way around and as yesterday was gorgeous I took a
long walk around the walls. On Sundays lots of people come up for a walk along
the walls and the lower paths next to the ocean. It was quite delightful.
It was a fairly busy day,
lots of driving and walking and eating so we did not write the blog ! Sitting
here in the dining room throwing a few words together. Maybe more later. We are
off to find some new adventures today (Monday), with Dave and Joyce. Cool and bright
