Today is driving day, we are off to Leon. The countryside is quite stunning and the drive through the Picos de Europa delightful . I think Paul got some good shots of snow covered peaks just before the 1400 meter pass. We arrived in Leon with no problems, they came later, when the portero at the parking lot would not let Paul come in to unload the car! I was checking in when Paul came storming through to the reception desk demanding answers. The poor girl at the desk was a little afraid I think and stammered her answers. The porter at the front desk soothed things over and took care of business. Paul is still annoyed about it, as, when we were leaving he said he saw the back gate Hitler watching a little old lady struggle with a suitcase from her parked car. Just to let you know, we drove in and unloaded and then back in the next day to load up again! LOL! You can’t let the buggers get the better of you!
After our little fracas we settled in and walked
to the old town with the intent of visiting the Cathedral and having lunch.
Found a terrific place at one of the first Plazas, the food was pretty terrific
with ripe melon and awesome jamon Serrano, lentils, roast beef and huge grilled
shrimp. Yum! Then I looked outside, and darn, it is raining! We had set out
optimistically without umbrellas or jackets. We had the girl call us a taxi and
went back to the Parador. The taxi driver was a little snotty and pointed out we
were not at the hotel but across the road. Well as I had not made the call I
was having none of that! The taxi was bit smelly and dirty and I would not
normally bring that up but he ticked me off!
We ate at the Parador that evening and did a lot
of people watching. Guess the nationality, that sort of thing. So ends another
day in Spain! Tomorrow is turn in the car and catch a train to Madrid day!
